Interleukin-10 (IL-10) mnemonic

Interleukin-10 (IL-10) mnemonic
Interleukin-10 (IL-10):
It is secreted by regulatory T cells (Treg) in order to inhibit inflammation preventing unwanted immune responses.
It is also secreted by Th2 cells to suppress Th1 cells and cell mediated immunity; and to induce humoral immunity.
IL-10 inhibits cytokine release from macrophages, which is why, it is also known as cytokine synthesis inhibitory factor.
Interesting fact: Beekeepers exposed to repeated stings are often naturally protected from severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis through a mechanism that involves IL-10-secreting T cells.
