Dendritic cell
Dendritic cells are cells with long cytoplasmic arms capable of efficient antigen presentation to lymphocytes (“professional antigen-presenting cell [APC]”).
They express high levels of MHC class II molecules.
Dendritic cells migrate into draining lymph nodes following microbial infection, where they present antigens to both helper and cytotoxic T-cells. This antigen presentation is required for the initiation of a variety of responses.
Dendritic cells also play a role in peripheral resistance, and hence helps in prevention of auto-immune diseases.
